FAQ

A beautiful smile is not the only reason to have teeth! Even though modern food, being so soft, does not required special effort, the most important function of the mouth still remains CHEWING. A correct mastication is essential for the well being of our body, as many DYSFUNCTIONAL patients may witness. How is your chewing? Do you feel your bite off? Dr. Vailati has developed the famous GTest, based on the observation of patients chewing gums. So many problems can be detected by watching patients chewing. What is surprising is that despite Dr. Vailati’s contribution to the field of mastication with the GTest, patients still report that in their life very few clinicians have asked to chew in the dental chair. Finding the dentist who is capable to understand how your ability to chew is, and how after the reconstruction of your dentition this ability can be improved (if it was incorrect) or maintained (if it was correct) is a must! Do not miss the opportunity to understand with Dr. Vailati if your way of chewing should be modified or preserved.

Often the first sign of dental wear is the damaged of the front teeth. What patients ignore is that to repair the broken incisal edges, dentists must remove healthy tooth structure. Preservation of the remaining tooth structure should be instead the most important objective in the therapy of tooth wear. In 2005, Dr. Vailati has developed a non invasive approach to dental wear, the 3STEP method. The goal of this Additive dental therapy is to restore what is missing without any additional removal of what is left. Due to the lack of invasiveness, ADDITIVE Dentistry is very well accepted by patients, especially phobic ones, who can have their teeth restored and protected sometimes even without the need of dental anesthesia. This non invasive method is also extremely valid to test drive how dysfunctional patients can be stabilised.
In Western societies, stress-related habits like teeth clenching and grinding are becoming more common. Treatments aimed at addressing these habits often result in visually pleasing, but functionally problematic restorations, that often worsen the existing dysfunction. Facing failures like fractures or chipping, dentists often do not check if the failing restorations were integrated in the patient’s function, blaming instead the patient's incapacity to be treated, and labelling them ‘bruxists.'. Defining a patient bruxist doesn't contribute to a more accurate diagnosis nor to choose the right treatment for long-term success. Dr. Vailati instead prefers to identify the patient’s risk factors that could be modified by non invasive dental therapies to stabilise the bite e reduce the tendency to clench teeth and break restorations. This diagnostic assessment will allow then to better plan a personalised therapy for each patient. Functional stabilisation is the key to treat “bruxism”.
